In light of the increasing greenhouse gas emissions that are mainly caused by air conditioners, DMSS is driven to make a change through our strength in technological aspects. We develop energy-efficient and ozone-friendly products in our efforts to mitigating environmental impact, for instance, our R32 refrigerant is of zero ozone depletion potential (ODP=0) that could contribute to better environmental performance.
On the other hand, we could never have gone this far without the strong leadership and contribution from the DMSS team. They have been working round the clock to ensure they could deliver the best services to both our end users and business partners. Daikin Research & Development Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (DRDM) is the core subsidiary company in Daikin Malaysia Group dedicated to the Technology Development for Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment. It is the largest air-conditioner R&D Centre in South-East Asia with a total built-up area of 8,500 square meters. A total of USD11 million was invested in 1998 to construct the R&D Building and facilities which include various test laboratories to conduct research and develop innovative technologies to suit human lifestyle.
Our R&D Centre has 17 Psychrometric test laboratories which are used to simulate various test conditions, from intense high temperature and humidity levels to freezing environmental conditions. Besides that, there are Anechoic and Reverberation sound laboratories which are used to accurately measure the sound level emitted by the air-conditioning equipment. These test rooms have been independently certified by Intertek as a recognized Global Satellite Laboratory, covering Performance, Electrical Safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) tests. And, Underwriters Laboratory (UL) has given similar recognition for our Electrical Safety and EMC test facilities. At the same time, ETL (USA) has also recognized our Psychrometric labs as an Approved Performance Test Facility.
Our research facility is one of the best in the world, with an annual capital investment of RM10 million to continually improve and increase our capabilities. Over the years, numerous inventive and ground-breaking products like the revolutionary Built-in Starter and Fast Cooling Technology have been created and have since set the benchmark in the air-conditioning industry.
